  • Hello there,

My name is Lynn, from the Portland area. I am in the middle of a missions trip and am including one of the press releases at the bottom of this note so you may have a better understanding of what I am doing as well as a link to our YouTube commercial and website.

Anyway…to make a long story short, I am walking from British Columbia to Mexico. I am doing this as an awareness fundraiser for the homeless and am asking from the public to not only donate one penny per mile walked (total of $18.63) to their nearest homeless shelter but to volunteer their time in helping these people who are their neighbors. If there is anything you can think of that I can do while on this walk, I do hope you will contact me.

The goal is to have spoken with 25,000 people at some point of this trip and to be part of the change in plight of the homeless. At the time of this writing I am in Tacoma, but leaving the afternoon of the 3rd. Anyway, this is the only thing I knew I could do to help and it may do nothing at all for the battle against homelessness, but then again, if enough people know and follow my blog, it may make all the difference in the world. I do hope so.

    Thanks ever so much
    Lynn McPherson

Walk with me and CHANGE the world

    PRESS RELEASE
174 miles into her 1863 mile trek, formerly homeless, 54 year old, Lynn McPherson is well on her way to being part of the solution in the world of homelessness. A take charge kind of gal, McPherson from Portland, Oregon decided to “be the change” she wanted to see in the world of homelessness.

For herself she is asking for nothing. For the homeless she is asking for a penny. One penny for each of the 1863 miles she’s walking step by literal step from British Columbia to Mexico…with all the pennies going to local homeless shelters. “Not much to help give someone a home is it?” says McPherson. That’s the way McPherson estimates it anyway.

Says McPherson: “One out of every six Americans is just one paycheck away from being homeless, myself included. We must do something to stop that from happening.”

Her march is not primarily to raise funds. She also invites the public to
1). Become a factor in the war against homelessness.
2). End the myth that homeless people are all drunks and addicts.
3). Prevent a next generation of homelessness.

McPherson has already received widespread support for her walk from mayors, senators, media people and numerous homeless shelters. Her goal is to speak with 25,000 people by the time she crosses into Mexico on the 4th of August. McPherson will pass through Portland on May 11th where she will walk along with staff and clients of the Portland Rescue Mission who have partnered with her on this trek.
